I wanted to let all TAG families know what kind of
additional program offerings we are going to offer this school year. There are 2 different opportunities for
our TAG students.
We will have late opening classes again. We are hiring
certified teachers who will conduct a specific 5-session class that would
happen over 5 different late starts.
It will be more of an on-going class, instead of the one-session ones we
did last year. Our goal is that these classes are more project
based, and more interactive for the students. These classes will be paid by the TAG budget and are free to
all TAG kids.
In addition, there will be two afterschool TAG classes (one for the younger kids, one for the older ones). It will be offered through the afterschool PTA programs. These classes will feature 10 week sessions. There will be 2 classes in the fall, two classes in the winter and 2 classes in the spring. The fall, winter and spring classes will be different in order to appeal to more kids. The classes are only open to TAG kids, and they are fee based, so families will have to pay for their children to attend.

For the fall afterschool session, Mrs. Streano is teaching a
Broadcast Journalism mini-study for grades 4-5. In this class, students will work in a news team to
research, write and produce an actual news broadcast.
Mrs. Mauldin will teach the Election Project, a mini-study
centered around the 2012 election.
We will look at how elections work at a local and federal level. We will discuss branches of government,
creation of laws, and our role in how our country elects our leaders.
It is our hope these classes will appeal to the students and to the goals the parents talked about last spring when we met.
Looking forward to the new opportunities! Thank you all who are involved with TAG!!!!
ReplyDeleteIs the theme of the late-start sessions defined?
ReplyDeleteThe theme or curriculum is not defined at this point. We are in the process of hiring the teachers, which should be done by the end of this week. Once the teachers are in place, we will know more about what the classes will be about.
