Hi Llewellyn Families,
There have been several questions regarding the rollout of the Challenge Hour and grades targeted.
Logistically, we were advised by the teachers to start with only the 5th Grade students, as this is a big undertaking. 2nd and 3rd grade teachers were hesitant losing an hour of classroom time each week to a project without a proven track record. After many discussions with Mr. Galati, Mr. Crouser, and the faculty, we are piloting the project with grades 3-5 over 8 weeks in the winter/spring.
We have hopes to offer this to all TAG students by the end of the year, including 2nd and 1st grades. If we are a great success, the younger grades will benefit with our input and streamlined processes.
Llewellyn will still be offering late start classes beginning January and after school offerings from Saturday Academy.
I hope this helps explain our master plan. There are many moving parts to rolling this out, including space availability in a very overcrowded building. Please make your thoughts heard to the parent liaisons (see contact information right), Mr. Galati, and Mr. Crouser.
Many thanks for your support,
Susan
