Llewellyn TAG Meeting Notes

Thank you to all who attended the Llewellyn TAG Meeting on October 28th.  We had a great group of parents attend and many thoughtful issues were brought up for discussion.
Here are some highlights:

Principal Joe Galati opened the meeting reviewing the Llewellyn TAG Building Plan.  This building plan outlines in general terms how Llewellyn Elementary School identifies and meets Talented and Gifted student needs.  Principal Galati emphasized the new core curriculum is geared to increase rigor and relevance of all students.

Marty Crouser, the Llewellyn Elementary TAG Coordinator, spoke about the Nuts and Bolts of how students are identified as Talented and Gifted.  Teacher conferences are a great way to start the discussion regarding TAG, as well as to discuss how your TAG student's needs are being met in the classroom.  Mr. Crouser will also bring Professional Development sessions with TAG student focus to all Llewellyn faculty, including increasing rigor and relevance in the classroom and tools for teachers to meet TAG student needs.

Susan Lattimore, TAG parent liaison, discussed forthcoming opportunities for TAG Students being offered at Llewellyn.  Late-Start TAG Classes run by OMSI will be offered starting in January.  TAG After-school classes (fees comparable with current after-school program) will be offered via Saturday Academy in both the Winter and Spring Sessions.

We will be piloting a program called "Challenge Hour" this winter in an effort to facilitate access to TAG services to all students.  Challenge Hour will be a pull-out during the school day with individual classrooms.  The program will be run solely by parent volunteers.  More information will be forthcoming.

Both Principal Galati and Mr. Crouser have been extremely supportive of thinking out of the box to make the TAG program at Llewellyn a success!  Please continue to check this blog for updates.  Better yet, subscribe and the new posts will come directly to your inbox.
